Bright Clothes

In which I discuss the visually assaulting clothes I’m purchasing more and more of.

I wear bright clothes. Like, really bright. Florescent even! I’m a walking image of the 80’s, though lacking the hairdo. It’s great fun (and I’m not even gay).

It’s something I chose to do about a year ago, and have been slowly making progress ever since. One day, as I was relaxing in a public square, it struck me that almost all of the people were wearing dull or greyscale coloured outfits, with the exception of a few bright ladies. Now, I don’t really mind the use of white or muted colour schemes, but it seems to me rather oppressive if everyone is wearing them.

Even in the concrete jungle of modern cities there’s plenty of colour. Different cars, posters taped on walls, piles of bricks, and what have you all add their own colourful blending to the area, but we humans do not. Or perhaps that’s just Canberra for you.

But we can

And to prove it, I’m now purchasing the brightest t-shirts and jumpers I can lay my hands on. It’s great adding a bit of colour around the place, and even helps my ego by garnering me more odd looks than usual.

So, which colours do you prefer for your clothes, and why? Related: what industry do you work in?
